THE HISTORY

OF HÚNS 16

ANNO 1842

In 1841, skipper Yzaak Gerrits Terpstra bought Húns number 14. On the land next to it he built the semi-detached houses number 15 and 16. Together with his wife Akke Leegsma, they also became the first owners of the two houses. When the house was built in 1842, they sold it to Tiede and Saakje de Boer.

GERM AND ANTSJE

The house was inhabited for a long time by Germ Kuipers (1856-1937) and Antsje de Wit (1857-1939). Germ was a smart and helpful farmer. He was also the village bicycle repairman and if a heater was broken in Húns, it was also brought to Germ.

1973: RUUD AND CHRIS

In 1973 Ruud and Chris Kamstra bought Húns 16. To enjoy it in the summer with their children Edo, Martin and Susanne. And to rent it out to families for the rest of the year. Ruud and Chris take care of the first modernization. Sewerage is being constructed, central heating and Ruud personally build a small extension with a shower and toilet.

2020: SUSANNE AND PASCAL

When Ruud and Chris become a day older, daughter Susanne takes over the holiday rental of Húns 16. And of course she also regularly enjoys the summer house during the summer months. Together with her husband Pascal and their two children Rebecca and Mathijs.

In 2020, Susanne and Pascal decided to take over the holiday home in Friesland and start a second major modernization project. In the summer of 2020, the roof was renovated, two bedrooms and a bathroom were added to the first floor and the front garden was given a major makeover.

THE RENOVATION PLANS

The 2020 renovation left me wanting more. In the first months of 2021, the old, dilapidated sheep stable was transformed into a spacious and cozy kitchen-diner with all modern appliances. And now the question arises; How do we connect this kitchen/diner to the house? With a hallway or a sunny garden room? Or do we embrace the idea of a separate kitchen and occasionally walk back and forth with an umbrella?

The future will tell.

2023: NEW BATHROOM

The holiday home in Friesland is becoming more and more comfortable. For example, the old bathroom on the ground floor was overhauled in January and February 2023. Investments were mainly made in insulation. Floor insulation, roof insulation, double glazing... A lot of cold always entered the house through the old bathroom - and the hall. That's over now. And we got a beautiful new bathroom and nice hall in return.

2024: RESTORATION OF THE WALLS

More and more plants grew from the walls. And more and more insects found a hole in the holes left behind. It was high time to restore the facades. Old joints were renewed and broken stones were replaced. And 180 years of filth was sprayed away. This exposed history and we saw where in times gone by there were windows, roofs ended and where the stove blew soot through the walls.
