Rebecca playing on the kaats court in Húns

MEMORIES OF HÚNS.
THE STORIES OF REBECCA.

Even though I grew up in Haarlem, my second home is Húns. As soon as there was talk about selling our holiday home in Friesland, I was fighting back tears. Fortunately, because my parents have taken over the summer house, I don't have to say goodbye to our Frisian, authentic holiday home for a long time. And this is why I'm already looking forward to all the holidays in Friesland that are yet to come:

THE KAATS FIELD

When you enter Húns, the first thing you notice is the kaats court. The front garden of the holiday home may be a bit small, but that is greatly compensated by the kaats court in front of the door. With a bit of luck, the village will turn it into an ice skating rink in the winter and a small fair in the summer. Playing baseball on the kaats field is my favorite activity. But whether it's football, skating, swinging or handball; In any case, the field provides a lot of fun.

THE BACKYARD

Before you walk into the house, the large, colorful backyard provides a warm welcome. That backyard is the place to which I owe my fondest Húns memories. Memories of sun-drenched breakfasts in my pajamas, views of grazing Frisian horses and enjoying coffee with orange cake with the whole family (a Frisian pastry that is definitely worth a try!). The backyard is a place that will provide many more memories. And maybe for you too.

BOX BED

The most authentic part of the holiday home is the box bed. I used to fall asleep there with the noise in the background of my family playing cards in the living room. My brother can't let go of the box bed yet and last summer he slept there with his long body and watched movies. You're absolutely right, because I wish that cosy, cozy feeling for everyone.

SAILING IN THE BOALSERTER FEART

A five-minute walk from our holiday home in Friesland and you were standing by our boat. From there you could sail to nearby villages or moor at a random meadow for a picnic.

I prefer to sail with the surfboard behind the boat, which everyone always falls off one by one. This makes it secretly faster to walk to Baard or Oosterlittens, but it is by far the most fun on the surfboard.

HOLIDAY IN MY OWN COUNTRY

For as long as I can remember, we have spent holiday after holiday with the whole family in Húns. For me, that wonderful holiday feeling is only 1.5 hours away. A short ride in the car leads to all the above moments of happiness, a different environment, a different smell and the disappearance of my daily work routine. So, I'm just getting in the car.

Oant Sjen (see you soon)!
