WADDEN CENTER

At the start of your journey along the Frisian side of the IJsselmeer you will find the Waddencenter on the Afsluitdijk. Here you can learn more about the unique ecosystem of the Wadden Sea, which has been declared a World Heritage Site by UNESCO. Admire the interactive exhibitions, learn about the fish migration river and discover the wonders of this special nature reserve.

FISH MIGRATION RIVER
​24 minutes from Húns.
The fish migration river at the Afsluitdijk is an innovative project designed to restore fish migration between the Wadden Sea and the IJsselmeer. Here you can see how fish, such as salmon and sea trout, use special fish passages to reach their natural spawning and feeding areas.
Work is currently still underway on the fish migration river. The intention is that visitors will soon be able to walk from the Wadden Center to this junction between a highway of cars and a highway of fish.
MAKKUM

Further along the coast you will find the beautiful beach of Makkum, a popular destination for sun lovers and water sports enthusiasts.
