IMMISSABLE SIGHTS OF BOLSWARD
Broerekerk
The Broerekerk in Bolsward is a special place. It was once a proud, Gothic monastery church. In 1980, the oldest building in Bolsward unfortunately burned down. As a result, the church was roofless for a long time. But the ruin remained standing and now has something special. In 2006, the church was given a glass roof designed by architect Jelle de Jong. This makes it both an old and modern place. Inside, you can feel both history and renewal. The space is ideal for meetings and concerts.

In 2021, the Broerekerk in Bolsward received a new stained glass window. Artist Daniel Nauta from Bolsward designed the window. The choir window stimulates the imagination and connects the past with the present. With colorful shapes and shadows based on the church, this window is an asset thanks to the Bolswards Historie Foundation.
The town hall
nother architectural jewel is the iconic and graceful Town Hall, a national monument dating from 1617. The Town Hall is a beautiful example of Dutch Renaissance architecture. It exudes history and with its elegant stepped gables and turret it immediately stands out in the cityscape of Bolsward.

The Martini Church

Bolsward has a special museum that is definitely worth a visit: the Cultural Historical Center De Tiid. This museum is located in the beautifully restored former town hall of Bolsward and was opened in September 2021 by King Willem Alexander. The center offers a glimpse into the rich past of Southwest Friesland and has various exhibitions and activities. In addition to the museum, the building also houses a library, a municipal counter, and a tourist information point.
Bat fountain
The Bat Fountain in Bolsward is truly a work of art to behold. Johan Creten designed this impressive statue especially for Bolsward, which shows a large bat. ​

The bat is symbolic; it stands for protection and mystery. This work of art is part of the 11Fountains project, in which each city received its own fountain. The Bat is a special addition to Bolsward and makes a walk through the city even more beautiful.
The Bolsward Fortress
The Bolsward Fortress is a special piece of history. In the 16th century, the city had defensive works with moats and ramparts. Unfortunately, many of these ramparts have been dug away.

Fortunately, the Hoog Bolwerk was preserved. This part of the old defensive works gives you a glimpse of times gone by. A walk along the Hoog Bolwerk is a journey back in time; a valuable piece of heritage in the heart of Bolsward.
BOLSWARD AS A CYCLING CITY
Bolsward is a true cycling city. Over the past four years, the city has hosted the team presentations, the start twice and the finish three times of the Eneco Tour, now known as the BinckBankTour. Thanks to this Profronde, which is broadcast in more than 50 different countries, Bolsward is known everywhere as a cycling city.
Bolsward and the Fietselfstedentocht
Bolsward plays a crucial role in the Fietselfstedentocht. This cycling event starts and ends in this atmospheric city. The 235-kilometre tour takes you past the most beautiful spots in Friesland. After a day full of effort and experience, the participants return to Bolsward. A warm welcome and a festive finish await them there.
The statue of Hans Jouta
In Bolsward you will find a special statue by artist Hans Jouta from Ferwert. This work of art depicts the route of the Fietselfstedentocht. At the top you see a few cyclists, who are keeping each other out of the wind.

BOOG in Bolsward is the cultural centre for music, cabaret, film and theatre. Every year they manage to offer a diverse programme. For young and old.
